The marketing company known as PBR forced out of business by the company that actually brews its beer.  Sounds like it’s still the Hipsters’ fault.

2020... I don’t see why they don’t set up their own shop. The distribution will be a semi issue, but you already have the customers so the hard part is done.

ni college we used PBR when we played Beirut(beer pong) cuz no one could tell the difference in taste when the beer got dust/dirt from the floor in the cup that was stuck to the ball.

It sounds like the consolidation also lead to the demise of such steller brands as Stros and Rainer . PBR needs to continue tho, it is A merica’s Corona .

PBR is also good when the local dive bar has cans for $2.

Pabst Brewing Company , the owner of PBR, argues that MillerCoors is attempting to force it out of business by breaking a decades-long contract whereby MillerCoors produces Pabst’s ale.

MillerCoors disagrees. The company says it is not obliged to carry on producing PBR, and claims it gave Pabst plenty of notice to make other brewing arrangements.

The crisis stems back to a 1999 agreement forged between Pabst and MillerCoors, whose own beers include Miller Lite, Miller High Life, and Miller High Life Light.

That agreement saw MillerCoors take on responsibility for producing, packaging and distributing nearly all of Pabst’s beers – which also include Texas favorite Lone Star and Old Milwaukee.

Now MillerCoors says it is not obliged to continue manufacturing Pabst’s beer when the agreement expires in 2020, potentially leaving Pabst without a brewery from which to unleash its beer on the American public.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

That hard-earned ironic consumption is now at risk. A spokesman for MillerCoors said it told Pabst back in 2015 that it might not be able to produce its beer beyond 2020. MillerCoors has problems of its own – beer sales in general are declining in the US – and says it may have to close the facility where PBR is brewed.

But Pabst claims its agreement means MillerCoors must help it find a place to brew its beer. Pabst says it needs 4m to 4.5m barrels brewed annually and MillerCoors is the only place with the facilities to do it. Pabst is seeking more than $400m in damages.

Emphasis mine.

That’s confusing if not ridiculous. So they are accusing MillerCoors of trying to shut them down, when it’s MillerCoors that brew, package and sell Pabst for them.

So what does Pabst do if the ‘rival company’ is making the product for them.

You can’t take it to court, that they are trying to remove the competition if they are making it for you.

Make it your ruddy selves you lazy arsed idiots.

At least they’ll have one supporter, Julian Assange, ‘how dare they ask me to make my bed and look after my animal in their embassy’.

Sounds like MillerCoors is kind of being a dick about it though (which they have every right to be if they want). The owners of PBR have offered to buy one of the breweries that Miller has shuttered, but Miller apparently won’t sell it for anything less than absurd.

That’s a lot of coin for PBR. For $2 you can get a “proper” can of piss (bud light/miller light) for that amount of money.

I don’t think we are getting the whole story. I’ve heard a couple other things that make PBR seem more reasonable. One, that they had attempted to buy one of Miller’s shuttered breweries, but Miller won’t sell for any price less than absurd. And two, the contract may end in 2020, but there are provisions in the contract about renewal rights or something to that affect that Miller is attempting to not honor.

It really is America’s Corona, in that neither American Corona nor PBR are actually brewed by their namesakes.

I mean all the traditional light American beers taste pretty similar. Though if I have to rank them Coors light>PBR>Miller lite>Bud light...so yea, I’d still take a PBR over Miller or Bud.

Sounds like they want to reopen it after they get out of the contract. From what I read there were internal documents  from MC that said they’d have to shut down 2 plants to get out of brewing for Pabst, and now they are.  Looks like they plan to keep the breweries and reopen them once they get out of the contract.

Except that regular PBR isn’t a light beer. It’s a standard American Lager. They do make a light version, though. I imagine it just tastes like water.

11/13/2018 at 11:59

So there must be some stipulation in the contract about brewing capacity that they are trying to weasel their way out of it. Which would make sense if the other bit I heard about the contract having something about renewal rights in it as well even though it ends in 2020, because if the contract simply terminated in 2020 there’d be no reason for shutting down those breweries to get out of brewing Pabst.

Well, bars get their beer wholesale. They don’t usually  stock up at the grocery store. There was a dive bar in Scottsdale that used to  do $0.50 PBR nights.

I don’t think anyone actually enjoys PBR. I think they drink tallboys until it doesn’t taste bad anymore. Then they go crash their fixed-gear bikes on the way home from kickball practice.

A friend is super into craft brewing, and the problem with lagers is the slightest impurity or variation in the water, ingrediants or process can have large impacts on taste. Also they can go skunk quicker.
